Berry Bros & Rudd

2004 South Africa

Rating: 8, Maturity: W

The 2004 harvest has yielded the biggest crop ever in the South African wine history.

The wines, both reds and whites are of classic South African style, big, structured and concentrated. Cool climatic conditions caused the growing and ripening conditions to be long, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and fully on the vine, accumulating complexity and fruit intensity.

Red wine show exceptionally intense colour, as well as robust tannins and structure. Cabernet Sauvignon is good, Shiraz and Merlot are both worth searching for. Wine makers have been particularly satisfied with Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, both being delightfully fruity.
