A relatively small vintage of better than average quality. The yields were hit by 15 days of frost following on from a mild winter. June, July and August were hot and dry and growers` expectations were high at the beginning of September. However, the heavens opened in mid-September and rot and dilution became serious hazards. Good weather returned towards the end of the month and the harvest was completed in fairly dry weather.
The wines are pleasant and soft but they sometimes lack acidity and as a result many have aged prematurely. As ever, the best growers ensured that their wines retained enough acidity to last.
