A relatively small vintage of better than average quality. The yields were hit by 15 days of frost following on from a mild winter. June, July and August were hot and dry and growers` expectations were high at the beginning of September. However, the heavens opened in mid-September and rot and dilution became serious hazards. Good weather returned towards the end of the month and the harvest was completed in fairly dry weather.
This was a vintage that required rigorous grape selection at harvest time. Some of the wines lack richness and "generosity". However the best examples are soft, elegant, medium-bodied wines which are very pure expressions of Pinot Noir. They are all drinking well now.
