1992 cannot be considered a great vintage but some fine, well-balanced and attractive wines were produced that will make superb medium-term drinking. Winter and spring were mild and were followed by a muggy, humid and damp June. July and August were warm and predominantly dry and the good weather continued through to mid-September before the heavens opened on the 23rd soon after the harvest had commenced.
The vintage favoured producers who severely restricted their yields and who made a rigorous selection at harvest time. The best producers have produced wines that lack the structure and weight of the 90s, 92s and 93s, but are still classy, fruit-driven wines that display plenty of finesse. They are all drinking well now.
