A mixed year for Red Burgundy with the baking-hot summer weather proving to be almost too much of a good thing. Summer was hot and then September brought almost heat wave weather conditions. The result was a huge crop of grapes, which proved a serious problem to growers in terms of available vat space. The weather was so warm that it was difficult to cool the fermentation temperatures - those with the proper equipment were able to cool down their musts and produced very good wines - those without, struggled.
Most of the wines should have been consumed by now - as is often the case, the very finest producers in Burgundy managed to produce superb wines, many of which are still drinking superbly.
