A poor vintage, largely due to the wettest summer for at least 50 years, with Bordeaux seeing less sunshine hours than in any year since 1980. Very few wines of any quality were produced in Sauternes, as the cold weather and lack of sunshine precluded the development of botrytis in the grapes. Château d`Yquem declassified its entire crop.
