Berry Bros & Rudd

1987 Red Bordeaux

Rating: 5, Maturity: W

Certainly not the vintage of the decade but not a total write off either. Spring was unseasonably cold and this adversely affected the flowering. The summer was warm with intermittent rain but the real damage took place in October when torrential rains severely disrupted the harvesting of the Cabernet grapes.

The percentage of Merlot in most of the blends is unusually high in the 87s and, as a consequence, many wines are soft, surprisingly lush and very agreeable to drink. All the wines are now fully mature.
