2003 Champagne
The frosty conditions early in the season led to the demise of half of the
crop, so the Champagne production from 2003 was severely restricted.
The heat wave later in the summer led to the earliest harvest ever experienced
in the region that began as early as the last week of August. As a result,
grapes enjoy exceptional ripeness and fruitiness but low acidity. Pinot Noir
(and consequently the production of Rose Champagne) fared much better than
Chardonnay grapes in these conditions.
