A large crop of above-average Champagnes was produced, although generally the vintage was not declared. The harvest took place fairly early and was largely over by the end of September. This was the first year that saw the implementation of measures to ensure that yields and the size of the crop were curtailed with the purpose of improving the quality of the wines.
