Maturity:
Not a bad vintage but one that has been overshadowed by the superb preceding
vintages. Spring frosts in April and May seriously affected the bud break and
this in turn led to a late and uneven flowering. July and August were hot and
dry but heavy rains towards the end of September caused much of the fruit to
rot and led to some fairly dilute wines being produced. The wines tend to be
low in acidity but many houses have produced eminently drinkable champagnes
that are ready to drink now.
